With the Omens of the Third Age prerelease officially kicking off this Saturday, May 30, at 5:00 PM, it’s time to sharpen your blades (or your lightning bolts) and prepare for the storm.
In this guide, we’re going to walk you through everything you need to know about the new set, the prerelease format, and how you can join the fray right here in our store.
What is Omens of the Third Age?
Omens of the Third Age is the latest expansion for Flesh and Blood, and it is set to change the landscape of the game entirely. While past sets have leaned into shadow, light, and elemental frost, Omens is all about speed, energy, and the frantic power of the Lightning talent.
This set introduces us to some incredible new heroes, most notably the much-discussed Zyggy Starlight. Zyggy is making history as the first-ever Lightning Illusionist. If you’ve played Illusionist before, you know it’s usually about maintaining delicate "Phantasm" attacks or building up board presence with auras. Zyggy flips the script by imbuing that illusionary magic with raw electrical energy, allowing him to "fragment reality" in ways we haven’t seen before.
Alongside Zyggy, we’re seeing the return of the Lightning talent for heroes like Aurora, Legacy of Tempest, a Lightning Runeblade who looks to be the queen of "go-again" tempo. Whether you're a veteran player or just looking to get into gaming with your first serious TCG, this set offers a fresh, high-octane starting point.
Prerelease Details: The Nerd Haven Experience
We want our prerelease events to be the highlight of your gaming week. Here is the breakdown of what to expect when you walk through our doors this Saturday:
- Date: Saturday, May 30, 2026.
- Time: 5:00 PM. We recommend arriving 15–30 minutes early to get settled.
- Format: Sealed Deck.
- The Kit: You’ll receive an official Omens of the Third Age Prerelease Kit. This isn't your standard booster draft; it’s a massive 8-pack experience designed to give you a deep dive into the new card pool.
What’s Inside the Kit?
The Omens prerelease kit is one of the most value-packed ones we’ve seen in years. Inside, you’ll find:
- 8 × Omens of the Third Age Booster Packs: These are yours to open, keep, and use to build a 30-card (minimum) deck.
- Exclusive Promo Pack: This is where the magic happens. Each promo pack includes 10 cards, featuring a full suite of Astral Sanctuary equipment.
- Cold Foils: Yes, you read that right. The Astral Sanctuary equipment in your promo pack comes in stunning Cold Foil versions. This ensures every player has a functional equipment set (head, chest, arms, legs) that is legal for play in the prerelease event.
- Marvel "Glide Through Starlight": This special promo card was recently spoiled and is designed to help players navigate the arcane damage that frequently flies around in these Lightning-heavy sets.
Mastering the New Mechanics: Lightning Flow
Every new FAB set brings a "puzzle" to solve, and for Omens of the Third Age, that puzzle is Lightning Flow.
Lightning Flow is a central mechanic that represents the building momentum of a thunderstorm. During our playtests and the world premiere highlights, we’ve seen that Lightning Flow tokens are essential for both offense and defence.
- Aggressive Rate: Many cards in the set allow you to trade Lightning Flow for incredibly efficient attacks: think 0-cost cards that hit for 5 power. This rewards players who can manage their "flow" and keep the pressure on their opponent.
- Arcane Barrier Synergy: Lightning Flow isn't just for hitting hard. It’s also been confirmed as a key component for activating Arcane Barrier. In a set where Oscilio and Zyggy are throwing lightning bolts and illusionary sparks, having your "flow" ready to block arcane damage will be the difference between a win and a loss.
- Quick Strike: Keep an eye out for cards with the "Quick Strike" keyword. These reward you for attacking multiple times in a turn, perfectly suited for the Lightning talent’s high-speed gameplan.

You’re going to be opening 8 packs of brand-new cards: you'll want to protect them! We carry a full range of standard size collectible card sleeves and Dragon Shield sleeves. There is nothing quite like the feeling of sleeving up a fresh Marvel or Legendary pull right at the table.
3. Bring Your Best Dice
Flesh and Blood involves a lot of tracking: life totals, resource points, and now Lightning Flow markers. While you can use paper and pen, nothing beats the tactile feel of rolling for your hero's starting life or tracking damage with a high-quality set of dice.
